About the program
Newington Little League is now part of District 5.  The softball program includes travel to nearby towns (Berlin, Bristol, Plainville, New Britain, Farmington, etc) for games. Junior teams may travel further based on availability of teams. We may also incorporate surrounding towns at various levels outside of D5

Assessments are held each spring are required for all softball players ages 8-14 who were not on a Major or Junior Division roster by the prior Fall season.  All players will be evaluated in hitting, throwing, and fielding drills. Regardless of the division of play a child intends on playing all players MUST take part in the skills assessment. The process allows each coach to assess the basic skills of each eligible player to aid in the player selection process.
Age determination for a Little League Softball player is the actual age of a child they turned as of December 31st of the prior year. These dates identify the “league age” as it relates to the division of play. Please use the League Age Chart to help

The days per week reflects the commitment needed to play in the sport.  Particularly in the spring this is 3-4 days per week including weekends.  Weekend games are typically on Saturdays.

Practice\Games Breakdown
Instructional - typically 1-2 practices during the week with 1 weekend game - typically 8 games in the season
Minors\Majors - more front loaded practices with 12-14 games in the season, most games on weekends with some weeknight games
Juniors - front loaded practices with 10-12 games in the season, mix of weeknight\weekend games

All Stars
All Stars is a highly competitive level of play following the regular season.  There will be at least 2 tryouts for the team after May 15th.  There will be a demanding practice schedule prior to the start of tournament play.  Games for districts typically start mid June with sectionals finishing by July 4th.  Teams that move onto states play early-mid July.  There is a required parent commitment letter to play.
