NEWINGTON LITTLE LEAGUE
Player Skills Assessment

For all baseball players that are league age 9-12 , and all softball players that are league age 8-12, who were not on a Major Division roster in Spring 2023, a player skills assessment for baseball will be held on Sunday March 3rd at Swanson Baseball, located at 598 Deming Rd., Berlin, CT.

Softball Assessments will start at 1:30pm on Sunday, March 3rd. Mike Phelps will email details about specific start times.

Baseball Assessments will start at 3:40pm on Sunday March 3rd. Please see below for details about start times.

All players will be evaluated in hitting, throwing and fielding drills by Major and Intermediate Division coaches.  Regardless of the division of play a child intends on playing, all players MUST ATTEND the Skills Assessment. The process allows each coach to assess the basic skills of each eligible player to aid in the player selection process. This process is designed to promote equity and competitive balance across each league. Baseball Players not selected for the Majors division will be assigned to the Intermediate division.

Please read the below information carefully and thoroughly:

Structure of Skills Assessment:
All players will be assessed by the Major Division coaches on their fielding, throwing, catching, and hitting skills.  The assessment will be used to provide information for the Major Division draft process, and to create balanced teams in the Intermediate Division.

What to wear/bring:
·         All players should wear comfortable clothes (e.g., sweatpants, baseball pants (no shorts) and sneakers. DO NOT WEAR CLEATS
·         All players must bring a fielding glove, their own helmet and a Little League approved bat.

Facility:

Swanson Baseball is located at 598 Deming Rd in Berlin. When looking at the front of the building, drive around the right side of the building (first entrance if you are coming down Demin Rd from the Berlin Tpke) and loop around the opposite side where you will see a staircase and a door for "Swanson Baseball."

PLEASE NOTE PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STAY IN THE FACILITY.  WE ASK THAT YOU CHECK YOUR PLAYER IN, THEN DROP THEM OFF AND KINDLY WAIT OUTSIDE.

Arrival Times:

The Skills Assessment will be split into groups based on baseball age.  Please check your child in 10 minutes before their group's start time. Each group's assessment should take 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Please see the start times below for all BASEBALL players:
